A perfect day at lake wolfgangsee: Cog railway & Cruises

The best way to explore the charming villages around the emerald green Lake Wolfgangsee is by water:

  • The Mozart village of St. Gilgen offers plenty of tradition and culture right on the lake.
  • A mix of old and new styles awaits you in Strobl. Nostalgic country houses, magnificent art nouveau villas and modern hotels are lined up side by side here.
  • In St. Wolfgang, not only the Weisses Rössl and the famous pilgrimage church await you, but also an unforgettable ride on Austria's steepest cog railway, the SchafbergBahn. From the top, you can enjoy the view of Lake Wolfgangsee with its surrounding villages and mountains.

4 modern ships & one historic ship

Shipping has been operating on Lake Wolfgangsee for over 150 years. On May 20, 1873, the paddle steamer "Kaiser Franz Josef I" set sail for the first time. From this point onwards, trips on the liners became a special pleasure. The difference to earlier is that today’s vessel is no longer powered by steam, but rather a diesel engine.

Today, the fleet consists of 4 modern and one historic ship.

  • MS Austria
  • MS Salzburg
  • MS Salzkammergut
  • MS Wolfgang Amadeus
  • RMS Kaiser Franz Josef I: Vintage ship built in 1873.
